Founded in 2017, Absorb combines traditional fermentation with modern wellbeing values. As a result, each bottle delivers flavour, integrity and purpose in equal measure.
From Kitchen Experiments to Award-Winning Kefir
Absorb began in Laure’s kitchen while she trained as a naturopath. During her studies, she started making water kefir for classmates and quickly refined her technique. Soon after, demand grew.
Initially, Laure sold her kefir at farmers’ markets. Then, independent health and vegan shops began stocking it. Production moved from her garage to its current home at The Bridge Studios in Cardiff, where Absorb now operates from two dedicated containers.
Meanwhile, Alan joined the journey, and together they continue to produce every batch with care and precision.
A Mission Rooted in Gut Health
At its heart, Absorb exists to raise awareness of the gut microbiome and its role in overall health. Therefore, the team encourages people to make or consume more fermented foods and drinks as part of everyday life.
Rather than following trends, Absorb focuses on time-honoured methods. This approach allows flavour and fermentation to do the hard work naturally.

In addition, Absorb applies the same care to its sauerkraut. They use fully organic vegetables and premium salt sourced from the marshlands of the Vendée in France.

Absorb is particularly proud of its Lavender water kefir and Ginger & Lemon water kefir. Both flavours earned a Great Taste Award in 2024, recognising their quality and depth of flavour.
While Absorb doesn’t currently produce seasonal lines, they have previously released festive flavours. These limited runs reflect their experimental and creative spirit.
Sustainability, Community & Low Waste
Sustainability plays a central role at Absorb. The business operates with very low waste and reuses glass bottles wherever possible. Furthermore, its subscription model works much like a traditional milk round, helping to reduce packaging even more.
Beyond production, Laure regularly delivers talks, demonstrations and workshops. Through these, she shares knowledge about fermentation with local communities and festival audiences across Wales.
