Penllyn Estate boasts a rich variety of wildlife habitats, ranging from arable grassland and woodland to the flood plains of the River Thaw.
We have a number of excellent walks along the public rights of way where you can explore Penllyn Estate and enjoy the varied wildlife, especially the large bird population who visit and breed here.
We have produced two maps to accompany you on any walks that you do.
Map 1 indicates where you may find various bird species on Penllyn Estate Farm, whilst Map 2 lists five suggested walking routes of varying length.

“ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS PLACE”
The meat is unreal. Great farm shop. Butchers happy to cut unusual cuts, I asked for picanha and they had no issues. Well worth a visit. Take away sandwiches are amazing too.

“FABULOUS FARM SHOP”
Simply the best steaks! Have enjoyed these a number of times, they are consistently excellent. The kitchen is a great place for coffee too, the food is excellent value! Beautiful views and the whole place is simply a breath of fresh air.

“MY GRANDCHILDREN LOVED THEIR MEAL”
Grandchildren enjoyed their meal and loved playing in the park. Good quality goods in farm shop.

Elsewhere in Cowbridge
There is plenty to do and see in and around the town – see below a handful of recommended activities for those looking to explore the area beyond Forage.
St Quentin's Castle
Located in the village of Llanblethian, a five minute drive from Forage, it is thought that St Quentin’s Castle was first occupied as a defensive structure in the year 1102, before further building work took place in 1312. Later used as a prison, children will enjoy seeing the ghoulish (pretend) skeleton languishing in the cells! Note that there is a sizeable lawn area to enjoy, backing onto woodland walkways.
Cowbridge Physics Gardens
This is an absolute gem of a place, just off the high street in the grounds of the Old Hall. Neglected for many years prior to restoration by a loyal group of volunteers in 2006, the garden incorporates plants involved in the making of traditional medicines, culinary dishes, perfumes, cosmetics and dyestuffs. Whether you are interested in horticulture, medicine, or just looking for somewhere to relax and think, this is a wonderful place to spend a peaceful hour.
Local Walks
There are some lovely routes around Forage and Cowbridge. Check out the map to view public rights of way and bridal paths. For those looking for more of a hike you could embark on Route Number 7 – Cowbridge – Castle, Court and Wells. The longer red route is just under 8 miles.
