Bossa Nova Chocolate
Luxury Gluten-Free Chocolates with Brazilian Soul
30 miles from Forage Farm Shop
At Forage Farm Shop, we love championing producers who combine craft, ethics and flavour. Bossa Nova Chocolate does exactly that. Based in South Wales, this artisan chocolatier creates luxury, gluten-free chocolates inspired by Brazilian heritage and made using natural, responsibly sourced ingredients.
Founded in 2019 and located just 30 miles from Forage, Bossa Nova brings elegance, depth of flavour and real provenance to every box.
From Family Tradition to Artisan Chocolate Maker
Bossa Nova began with cherished childhood memories. Founder Andrea Toniolo Staggemeier grew up making traditional Brazilian chocolate truffles with family, learning early that patience, quality ingredients and care make all the difference.
However, in 2019, Andrea recognised a clear gap in the market. Premium gluten-free chocolates were hard to find, especially ones that didn’t compromise on taste or texture. As a result, the brand moved from passion project to full-time business.
Early success at local Christmas fairs confirmed strong demand. Soon after, support from Wales Food and Drink Innovation and the Zero2Five team at Cardiff Metropolitan University helped shape the brand, refine production and establish Bossa Nova as a credible artisan producer in Wales.
A Mission Built on Accessibility, Ethics and Quality
At its heart, Bossa Nova Chocolate believes luxury chocolate should be accessible to everyone. That includes people with allergies or intolerances.
Choosing a gift should feel joyful, not stressful. Therefore, every chocolate is gluten-free by design, without sacrificing flavour or indulgence.
Equally important is sustainability. Bossa Nova exclusively uses Cocoa Horizon Foundation certified chocolate. This ensures cacao growers receive fair prices and long-term support for their families and communities. In addition, the brand is moving to completely plastic-free packaging.
What Makes Bossa Nova Chocolate Unique?
The artisan producer stands apart because of its production method. Unlike traditional ganache, which uses heated cream poured over chocolate, Bossa Nova truffles follow a Brazilian slow-cooking technique.
Instead, ingredients cook gently over low heat while being constantly stirred. As a result, the truffles develop an incredibly smooth, creamy texture that melts effortlessly on the palate. This careful approach creates depth, richness and a luxurious mouthfeel you won’t forget.
What to Try First: Marc de Champagne Bonbons
If you’re new to the South Wales chocolatier, start with the Marc de Champagne bonbons. These show the brand at its very best. Each bonbon features:
A thin milk chocolate shell
A Brazilian-style white chocolate truffle centre
Marc de Champagne infusion for elegance and warmth
To finish, each bonbon is hand-painted using cocoa butter blended with natural pigments from berries, radish and currant. The result is stunning to look at and even better to eat.
Seasonal Releases and New Flavours
This spring, Andrea will launch a new Vanilla Salted Caramel truffle. Shortly after, gifting bar versions of this flavour are also planned.
These limited launches reflect the brand’s small-batch ethos. Quality always comes before quantity.
Sustainability, Sourcing and Community Values
Sustainability runs through every part of the business. Bossa Nova Chocolate prioritises:
Natural, responsibly sourced ingredients
Cocoa Horizon Foundation certified chocolate
Plastic-free packaging
In addition, the business has supported fundraising efforts for Cancer Research, Macmillan Cancer Support and local food banks. Ethical production and social responsibility go hand in hand.
