AxelJack Brewery: Local Craft Beer with a Sustainable Twist

15.9 miles from Forage Farm Shop

At Forage, we pride ourselves on collaborating with passionate local suppliers who share our values of sustainability, quality, and community. This month, we’re shining the spotlight on AxelJack Brewery Limited, an independent craft brewery creating exceptional beers and ciders right in our local area. Founded by Ian Axelsen and Craig Jackson in May 2023, AxelJack Brewery is quickly making its mark with a diverse range of flavourful brews.

As our product of the month for May 2025, you can enjoy 10% off the full range of delicious beverages when you visit Forage Farm Shop.

A Family-Rooted Beginning

Craig and Ian’s journey into brewing began with a shared passion and a desire to create something special.

Craig, formerly a head brewer at a Bridgend craft brewery, saw the potential to start an independent microbrewery. Ian, with his expertise in marketing and management, was eager to embark on a new business venture. Being family by marriage, their collaboration was a natural fit. Once they secured the perfect space in Maesteg, AxelJack Brewery was born.

Crafting Quality with Purpose

AxelJack Brewery’s mission is to create a core range of beers inspired by traditional and heritage flavour profiles while also exploring modern craft beer trends. Sustainability remains a core principle, with local and sustainably produced ingredients taking centre stage. The brewery uses recyclable, biodegradable packaging, including Bagasse (sugar cane) can holders and corn starch void fillers. Additionally, for every order placed, a donation is made to the Eden Project to plant trees in developing countries.

Unique and Memorable Flavours

AxelJack Brewery offers a wide range of beers and ciders to suit every palate. One of their standout creations is the Celtic Stout, a traditional brew with rich roasted malt flavours, layered with chocolate and coffee notes.

For those seeking something more contemporary, their Fog on the Bay New England IPA bursts with tropical fruit flavours like passion fruit and pineapple, delivering a juicy, smooth experience without the bitterness.

Their Welsh Craft Cider is another highlight, crafted from locally sourced, organically grown apples from Llanblethian orchards. Its medium-dry profile offers a refreshing taste of Wales in every sip.

Committed to Sustainability

Sustainability at AxelJack extends beyond packaging. They adhere to the concept of the Three Pillars of Sustainability: environmental protection, social development, and economic growth. From reducing carbon footprints to supporting fair labour practices, AxelJack takes conscious steps to operate responsibly.

Supporting the Community

Community involvement is a key part of AxelJack Brewery’s ethos. They actively support local events and charities, including
Aberthin Village Community Association, Cowbridge & Llanblethian Town Council & Community Group, and the Friends of Maesteg. Additionally, they provide regular donations to the Wales Air Ambulance Charity.

A Perfect Fit for Forage

AxelJack Brewery’s dedication to quality and sustainability aligns seamlessly with Forage’s commitment to offering fresh, local products. Their carefully crafted beers and ciders complement our seasonal food offerings, making them a fantastic addition to our shelves.

We’re also excited about the potential for future collaborations, from tasting events in the farm shop and community initiatives. Stay tuned for what’s to come!
