Our native breed of Aberdeen Angus beef, renowned for its high quality meat and intense marbling and flavour, is reared for 18-22 months at Penllyn Estate Farm to supply Forage Farm Shop and Kitchen. The cows are grass fed throughout the summer months and supplemented with home produced forage throughout the winter. Regular and prime cuts are hung for a minimum of 28 days to enhance flavour and tenderness.
The farm is regularly inspected by an independent body, which ensures that we meet the requisite standards for welfare.
Penllyn Estate Farm supplies Forage Farm Shop and Kitchen with a mixture of Suffolk and Romney ewes. The ewes have a staggered lambing period to take advantage of new season grass growth throughout the year. The flock is grass fed all year round and supplemented with root crops and clover leys where necessary.
Forage Farm Shop and Kitchen offer free-range chickens, ducks
and Christmas turkeys.
Our eggs come from our free-range brood of Lohmann Brown chickens, who enjoy pottering about over 50 acres of grass pasture and newly planted woodland all year round.
The eggs are produced to RSPCA Freedom Foods standards which ensures we meet strict welfare standards through regular inspection.
The pork sold at Forage derives from a traditional Welsh breed, curiously named the Welsh Pig. This hardy pig can be traced back to an indigenous, white
lop-eared breed, kept in Wales for as long as records exist. The home reared pigs are kept on dedicated grass paddocks, with shelters for inclement weather.
A range of game is available from our butchery counter according to the season and availability. Look out for duck, pheasant and other game during the autumn and winter months.
